Power for Water

Northern Ireland

2.2MVA generators supplied for water system in our home country.

Continuity of water supply is one of those things that can be taken for granted in most developed countries, and equally the power to run the supply.

Northern Ireland water produce 560 million litres of clean water a day for almost 1.8 million people as well as treating 320 million litres of wastewater a day. As they continued to upgrade their water supply systems recently throughout Northern Ireland, this also resulted in the upgrade of their power requirements on various sites within their network.

To fulfil this requirement AJ Power has supplied a full standby power supply package for two sites within the Northern Ireland network.

These bespoke generating set packages have been specifically designed and built in-line with strict environmental guidelines from the customer.

The two sets each supply 1.1mVA of power at 400 volts and the enclosure is specially designed to meet strict noise requirements of 70dBA@1m. The fuel system has a specially designed bunded bulk fuel tank with site installed double skinned fuel pipes c/w trace heating. The generator enclosure also has a bunded floor c/w leak detection and a ‘fail safe’ over spill system to cover all eventualities.

Perkins 4008TAG2A engines were used for this project.

The generator control system is designed to operate in a ‘peak lopping’ mode during the winter period to avail of cost savings during the high tariff period. The generator controls selected for this specification are the AJ Power InSight6000 panel, complete with a separate G59 panel. The G59 panel is a requirement specified by the utilities provider.

This project required a ‘Turn Key’ solution, in that a detailed design and build proposal along with a package which could be delivered, installed and commissioned within strict guidelines.

AJ Power is proud to have been key supplier to such a prestige project.
